Historic Central Amsterdam
Find the places for your daily shopping as well as some fun shopping. There are many small specialty shops in the area, some of them have been around for literally centuries.
Marqt - Supermarket
Five minutes from the apartment: all fresh, eco, organic, biological and tasty food. You will find lots of food produced locally: cheese, meats, fish and fruits and vegetables from producers close to Amsterdam. In the morning on the fields, and this afternoon at Marqt. Prices are a not much higher to what you pay elsewhere. Debit Card or Credit Card payment only. The business is built on sustainability.
Albert Heijn - Supermarket
For all of your foods and essentials. You find another but smaller Albert Heyn right on the Nieuwmarkt 18. Have a look at ready-made-meals section where they sell ‘koken en stomen’ meals (cook and steam). The sealed containers have a little steam vent and your meal is cooked/steamed ready in the microwave. Don’t punch the container; just put it in the microwave like it is. Great! Cash or debit card, no credit cards. Use the ‘bonus card’ attached to your house key to qualify for the discounts.
Nieuwe Hoogstraat 1A http://www.stach-food.nl/
Need some quick snack items, a quick meal or wine? Stach has a great selection of pastries, snacks, cheeses, wines, meals, sandwiches and of course coffee. Love the chocolate croissants! Just 1 block from DKBN and open daily.
Gall en Gall - Wines and liquors
Jodenbreestraat next to Albert Heijn. Look for the monthly specials.
Kaashandel Arxhoek - Cheese
Best cheeses are sold at Kaashandel Arxhoek, Damstraat 19. A wide choice of all kinds of Dutch and foreign cheeses. You can also have your cheese sealed to take it home.
Gebr Tel - Fish
For the outside it may look as if it is wholesale only, but you can buy smaller quantities as well.
't Kleine Slagertje - Butcher
Buy the best and reasonably priced meat in town at ’t Kleine Slagertje H. Vet.
Tofani - Ice Cream
Eat the best ice creams in town at Tofani, Kloveniersburgwal 16, open until 10 pm. Closed in winter. Approximately between November and March.
Packed with ingredients for your asian meals. Being in there, is like being in the Orient for a couple of minutes.
Puccini - Chocolates
Puccini - sometimes referred to as ‘the chocolate jeweler’. True gems, and prices to match. Next door you find the Puccini cafe.
Albert Cuyp Street Market
Groceries, fruits, fish, shoes, belts and clothing and much more. Mile long street market, just outside the main canal ring, and close to the main museums. Infamous for pickpocketing.
During shopping hours you can use the ATMs in the Albert Heijn supermarkets. Moreover there are two located on the Nieuwmarkt and one in the Jodenbreestraat, across the street from the Albert Heijn.

Herbs, alternative and traditional medicines are the trade of Jacob Hooij Pharmacy. Go and see the original 18th century interior.

Bijenkorf department store
The most prestigious department store in Holland with the spoiled international traveler as an important target group.
Waterlooplein - Flea market
Take a stroll on the flea market and be astonished about what can be for sale…. from video players to Tibetan hand knitted sweaters. I am not sure whether you are going to find the ‘deal of your life,’ however it is going to be fun to enjoy the atmosphere. Daily, except Sundays.
Rusland - Coffee shop
Opposite the Renaissance hotel. There is also a gay coffee shop at Reguliersdwarsstraat 6: The Other Side. We strongly advice you not to eat hasj cake nor drink hasj tea! Check the health and safety section why not!
Most 'original' post offices are closed. For stamps or mailing packages you can go to the Albert Heijn supermarket in the Jodenbreestraat.
